Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Fighters Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in power within the city.

Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The latest chapter ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the main group to begin their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.

This warrior group consists of Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Considering 13 cast members, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for players who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 make it clear why these five characters are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a violent opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing initiated the narrative’s action—exploited the enemy for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, attacking the character, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.

Casimir then paid off his liabilities and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each member has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their position as key figures in the powerful family could enable the team reach places they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him anywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and The healer defied the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The target is marked for death by House Halovar.

This results in them few options but to journey toward the remote area in search of the traitor.

What’s Next?

Based on episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the combat party will not appear the following episode, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Explorers and Schemers parties.

Viewers can anticipate learning which characters will be where in the story’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
